The Back Office

Small desk games set in a small CPA office. They teach the part of a tax rule that tends to get skipped: the condition that changes the answer.

Game 1

The In-Tray

Fictional notes land on the desk. Stamp each one ANSWER IT, NEED MORE FACTS or RED PEN, then paper-clip the fact that decides it. Eight notes a shift, a new rule pinned up each shift.

  • About five minutes a shift
  • No timer, no lives, no losing
  • Keyboard, mouse or touch

Game 2 · later

Close the Books

A locked office at year-end and a sticky note on the monitor. Each lock is a puzzle about the filing-season paperwork. It opens for filing season.

House rules

  • Notes, not people. Every note is a made-up example marked HYPOTHETICAL, NOT A CLIENT. No names, no real situations.
  • No clock. Nothing is timed, and a shift always finishes. Skipping a note is always allowed.
  • Points are for fun. A shift adds XP to your desk for the first two shifts each day. Points and badges are for fun. Nothing is ever won, bought or redeemed.
  • Your desk stays here. Progress lives in this browser only. Sound is off unless you turn it on.

The game is about the condition, not the score.
